Slopwatch: Google News is Still Promoting Many Fake Articles About "Linux", in Effect Rewarding Misinformation and Plagiarism

Today's Slopwatch will focus on Google News.

Why Google News?

This is meant to be where Google does some "quality control" or legitimacy checks. But it doesn't. Having fired loads of Google News staff nearly 2 years ago, things continue to deteriorate.

Hours ago Google News propped up those two slopfarms (operated by the same people) with Linux-hostile pages bearing slop images:

Slop or fake: New Exploitation Method Discovered for Linux Kernel Use-After-Free Vulnerability

Slop or fake: New Exploitation Technique Emerges for Linux Kernel Vulnerability

Notice the similarity; these are the same people in two domains (slopfarms) generating fake articles and then slapping some slop images on top. Why can't Google figure this out and derank/delist?

Worse yet, watch what else Google News promotes right now in results for "Linux" (fake text, fake images, fake authors):

Slop or fake: Canonical Outage Sparks Ubuntu Update Delays for Millions

Slop or fake: Mozilla Phases Out 32-Bit Linux Firefox Support by 2026

Slop or fake: Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Boosts Linux Performance on Ubuntu

Just to be very clear, the above are all fake articles. Everything about them is fake. But Google propels them to widespread visibility.

This is far from harmless because it lessens the incentive for people like Michael Larabel to compose original articles. The above slopfarm keeps plagiarising his work, rewording it using LLMs and then slapping a fake image on the result, generated by the "MechaHitler" image producer (Grok).

Last night I caught Adafruit (via Google News) linking to the above LLM slop(farm) and reusing the slop image.

Slop or fake: Engineer uses Claude AI to revive 25-year-old Linux tape driver

"Adafruit has been blocked by gratuitous javascript for a long time," an associate noted, "they are good with embedded hardware and the software which goes onto that hardware but increasingly clueless about larger picture matters" (their site is blocked by ClownFlare).

Adafruit is now part of the "LLM Ouroboros of Shit" and it spreads further (legitimises) fake images. We assume they're too clueless to realise this.
