Satya's Plan B: Try to Hide the Massive Extent/Scale/Scope of Microsoft Layoffs

Bosses admit they’re using return-to-office mandates to trim down teams—without needing to announce layoffs

Almost half of workers say that if their employer no longer allowed them to work from home, they would be unlikely to stay at their job, including about a quarter who say they’d be very unlikely to stay, according to a 2025 poll by Pew Research Center.
But even for the workers who ditch their jobs in response to more days commuting to the office, the grass might not be greener on the other side of the corporate job market.
Across the white collar job market, employment has looked increasingly frozen for job seekers. Non-degree earners like bartenders and baristas in hospitality jobs are seeing bigger wage growth than office workers right now, as demand for in-person job experiences has surged post-pandemic.
Microsoft's very stable genius, who shakes hands with the other very stable genius, has a great plan!
Why announce layoffs?
Just find new ways to cause workers to resign.
And resign they shall.
We already hear from some. They're leaving. They've had it with Microsoft.
Will Microsoft pay them? No.
After laying off about 30,000 workers so far this year (with two waves reported so far this month) Microsoft is looking for a "muzzle".
But hey, don't worry; the future is "hey hi" and Microsoft claims to be a leader in this future. Even laptops are now "hey hi", based on paid-for media placements.
Microsoft's debt is going up like crazy. They say they "invest in "hey hi" (AI)" - whatever that even means! They say they'll improve efficiency and productivity. Yes, because forcing all workers to commute (back and forth) to the office is not only "carbon-neutral" but also good use of workers' time.
Nobody is buying it. And fewer people buy Microsoft. Consider what we published last night about server deployments/sales. █
