Breach of EPO's Duty of Care or Cigna Reimbursement Issues
"We have received indications that the frequency of colleagues experiencing difficulties with the reimbursement of medical expenses from Cigna has increased," said the Local Staff Committee The Hague (LSCTH) at the EPO a few days ago, citing this 34-page document about Circular No. 368 "to cover under the healthcare insurance scheme (Article 83a Service Regulations and Implementing Rules thereto)" which includes cancer, vaccination, and "gender reassignment treatment" ("Minimum age for surgery is 18 years"). This was signed by António Campinos in "12 December 2024" i.e. about 9 months ago.
To be clear, this is not about patent monopolies. It's about the general well-being of staff; if the EPO cannot properly hire suitably-qualified professionals, as the EPC clearly mandates, this will mean many monopolies get improperly and even illegally granted, resulting in catastrophe for hundreds of millions of people. For instance, the EPC forbids European software patents, but today's EPO intentionally grants them.
Here is what LSCTH wrote at the end of last week: (redacted by common sense)

Cigna reimbursement issuesDear Colleagues,
We have received indications that the frequency of colleagues experiencing difficulties with the reimbursement of medical expenses from Cigna has increased. In order to gain a clearer picture, we would like to collect feedback directly from staff.
If you have encountered delays, rejections, or any other issues when seeking reimbursement for medical costs, or consider that the Guide to Cover was not being appropriately followed by Cigna, we kindly invite you to share your experience with us.
Your input will help us to:
• Identify recurring problems,
• Assess whether these are isolated or systemic, and
• Represent staff concerns more effectively in front of the Administration.
Please send your feedback in confidence to [redacted], preferably by 26 September (later submissions are also welcome). Any information provided will be treated with confidentially and will only be used in anonymised form when raising the matter at the appropriate level.
Your contribution is essential in ensuring that staff rights are safeguarded and that the reimbursement process works fairly and efficiently for everyone.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Kind regards,
Your local staff committee The Hague
The above ("[redacted]") E-mail address is epo.org, which means that the crooked administration and Microsoft get to snoop (and identify) complainants, who already suffered enough.
This is the sort of thing that motivated Luigi Mangione to assassinate a CEO.
We wrote about Cigna last year in relation to contraception. █
