Starting the log again
I suppose there's multiple meanings. This is my second real attempt at a Gemini presence (I'll save that for another log). That could be it, but there's a second meaning to "again" that I am taliking about.
There was a previous attempt to get the gemlog up and going. This involved quite a sophisticated scripting situation due to me wanting two seperate gemlogs (one technical and one not). Check the footnotes for a technical description. I scrapped that plan out of sheer frustration. I even vaguly vented about it on station. I'm still going to write; I'm just going to do everything by hand for now.Âą

Upstream
As I'm wont to do, I've reread a novel I really enjoyed. In this case, Neal Stephenson's Anathem. It’s a strange and beautiful book where cloistered scholars argue about math, philosophy, and physics until those arguments suddenly become very practical.
One of the neat ideas in Anathem is that reality isn’t a single straight line. It’s more like a giant directed acyclic graph - a DAG - with different branches and nodes feeding into each other. People, choices, accidents of timing, all ripple downstream.

I Cannot Mourn Charlie Kirk
A man was assassinated in front of a live audience, and I cannot gather the will to mourn this man. Two children lost their father, a wife lost her husband, two parents lost their kid, the hundreds in the audience are traumatized, an entire nation is discussing the political ramification of his death. And I cannot shed a single tear.
I suppose I care about the kids. Insofar as I can care about people I don't know, I do feel bad that their father was murdered. They didn't choose to have Charlie as their father, and the oldest still a very young kid. They no doubt went through the worst day of their lives on September 10th.

Israel. Genocide.
Where are they now? Wikipedia has a list of the parties. The Genocide Convention is an international treaty that *criminalises genocide and obligates state parties to pursue the enforcement of its prohibition*.
