Systemd Breaks Networking in Debian and Microsoft Staff Rushes to Make Face-Saving Excuses in LWN
Old: Look What Microsoft's Luca Boccassi is Doing to Linux
Having just mentioned this article that came out of the paywall a few hours ago, let's quote the key parts: "A bug in a recent release of systemd's network manager caused headaches for people managing systems that have a virtual LAN (VLAN) interface on a bridge [...] The bug in systemd-networkd was first reported to the systemd project on August 7 by Kenneth J. Miller, who encountered it in an Arch Linux package. The problem is a regression in the systemd 257.8 release; systemd-networkd will crash with a segmentation fault if a system has a bridge interface configured with a VLAN."
The best bit is in the comments, which are all about systemd. One person wrote: "It’s a bit sad, but OTOH now the systemd users get to feel how [Microsoft's] bluca and Co. are like, the same way the proponents of init system diversity got to feel for years and years."
Another one said: "Systemd at this point needs to seriously think about its governance and prioritization. Their backlog is 2.5k issues, and quite a lot of them are serious, and they should really work on reducing it rather than adding new stuff."
Microsoft's bluca is already there in the comments, his Microsoft money pays for LWN to let him leave comments early.
So there are 100+ comments in there. Some are from Microsoft staff. Remember that systemd is technically controlled by Microsoft. █
