Ruben Schade ☛ Visiting the historic Coal Loader in North Sydney
I was born in Sydney and moved back here a decade ago, but there is still so much here I haven’t seen, or didn’t even know existed. Clara’s dad took us on a small trip down to the Harbour yesterday to see The Coal Loader, and to explore some of the hiking trails around the harbour. We couldn’t have asked for better weather; Sydney in the spring is my new favourite climate.
The Coal Loader is located just behind Waverton in North Sydney. It was a coal bunker and refuelling station for steamships that was built out of local sandstone the 1910s, and only retired in the 1970s. It’s since been rehabilitated into a public park, complete with a piano and allotments for local residents to grow plants and veggies.
