Noteworthy Claim That IBM is Firing a Lot of Lawyers This Week (RAs in the Legal Department)
Legal departments rely on a budget. That budget comes from clients' money. If there's no such money, the legal departments shrink of cease to operate. They cannot survive without someone paying bills.
If the following is true, and it does seem very probable because IBM has "results" later this month (RAs typically precede those), IBM is shedding off "number of truly talented and longtime" lawyers, maybe some clerical staff (a lot of stuff lawyers do is also clerical, it's just harassment by paperwork).
Here's the claim from 12 hours ago.
A lot of what they do is patent 'trolling' or lawyering up against their own staff (e.g. HR disputes).
The Register MS has not covered IBM layoffs for a long time; it was busy taking money from IBM. Its Editor in Chief contacted me about it, not to deny this was true. █
