Every Morning
Since the sister site migrated to Perl it has published 37,547 new pages and every single day we linked to the latest daily batch (since 2023):
This process is not automated. Human operators are needed to ensure it's done correctly, in a supervised fashion. The same goes for feeding our fish and birds. Some years ago my sister purchased an automated feeder for the fish (for times one is away on holiday), but my dad and I don't trust electronics to get things done correctly every time. Some things are mostly or only done reliably by a human with consciousness and judgement (in exceptional situation or "edge cases"). Without it, there's no peace of mind.
Next Monday or next Thursday will be another Coffee Day (usually Mondays [1, 2], depending on weather or news pace) and doing everything while away from home was simplified this past summer. We currently work towards improving search, but there are other technical tasks in our TODO list. It might be nice to have IRC logs published automatically every morning, but we're not there yet. Bugs/edge cases combined with automation can spell disaster. Even external factors (such as upstream network provider having temporary downtime or DNS timeouts) must be accounted for, somehow. █
