Who Asked Software in the Public Interest (SPI) for a Refund? ($100,000, Resulting in Losses of $267,201 in 12 Months, Highest-Ever Losses)
In the latest-available Form 990: (from IRS)
Some years ago Daniel Pocock said or showed that SPI had spent about $120,000 on lawyers (one would assume to censor his sites because of what he was showing). To be clear, SPI acts like a "trade group" (front) for large companies, just like the Linux Foundation.
Based on the Form 990 that we studied, someone (or some company) that had given a grant asked for a refund. The IRS does not reveal who or what's tied to this refund (or the cause/reason).
