Daniel Pocock ☛ Alfa Lionesses v Bayonne Dockers, AFL France in Parc de Parilly, 8 November 2025
The French teams play nine-per-side on a rugby pitch. The vast majority of participants are local and Australians are few and far between. The French have well and truly taken ownership of our game. The scoreboard for the women's team shows us the Lionnes share more than a name with the Australian premiership winners. They have the roar too.

The Register UK ☛ Louvre's pathetic passwords belong in a museum, just not that one
A second audit, conducted in 2017, found similar problems, including the continued presence of Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems on the Louvre network long after Microsoft stopped supporting and providing security updates for the products. A later writeup from this past summer found that the software managing video surveillance was not only outdated, but running on a Windows Server 2003 machine.

CBR ☛ 12 Years Ago, The PS3 Quietly Won the Console Wars
Today, video games just seem to have the same juice they did even ten or so years ago. Outside of Nintendo's current offerings, consoles feel more like gaming computers than anything else. The Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 even use the same processors, and with franchises like Halo coming to PlayStation, it doesn't feel like there's a major reason for gamers to choose one over the other.
Back in the day, no two consoles were the same, and manufacturers made sure everyone was aware of the differences. This has resulted in heated console wars, like the famous battle between the SNES and the Sega Genesis. A more recent and frequently forgotten rivalry, however, is the one between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Even though Xbox dominated the conversation for much of that generation, PlayStation ultimately proved to be the winner.

HowTo Geek ☛ What is geofencing?
Geofencing can affect you in more ways than you realize, so it's a good idea to learn what you can about it.
Not to sound dramatic, but geofencing is all around us. It's one of those things you may not even realize, as it has become so integrated into our modern lives that we don't even think much about it. However, it's essential to understand geofencing, so you're aware of how your location data is being used.
[...]
If you have a smart home ecosystem set up, there's a good chance geofencing is helping you use some of its features. For example, if you set up a command that automatically opens the garage door when you're within a block of the house, that's using geofencing to make the setting work.
Essentially, geofencing utilizes your location data and applies specific conditions or task-dependent criteria to determine what enters or leaves the designated area. This can be particularly helpful for those with an in-depth smart home setup. Some applications even let you set these geofences yourself, although they're generally not called that.
But more than anything, geofencing is used by companies to send you targeted ads. The company's app can detect when you're physically in a certain area, and when you are there, they can push notifications or texts that are relevant to where you are.

GM puts 900 workers on indefinite lay-off amid production pause
General Motors has placed around 900 workers at its Fairfax Assembly & Stamping Plant in Kansas City on “indefinite lay-off”, the Detroit Free Press reported. The move follows the company’s decision to postpone the start of a second production shift at the site.
The plant had most recently produced the Chevrolet Malibu sedan and the Cadillac XT4. Both lines have ended, and GM is now retooling the facility for future vehicle lines, including the redesign of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and a gas-powered version of the Chevrolet Equinox slated for production in 2027. According to GM Authority, the Malibu ended production in late 2024 and the XT4 in early 2025.
GM told local media the lay-offs stem from changing market conditions, including soft electric-vehicle demand and shifts in federal incentives. Union officials representing the workers criticised the speed of the decision and voiced concern about local economic impact. “It’s not an ideal situation to have that many folks displaced,” said the president of UAW Local 31, the union at the plant.
