The EPO's Own 'Drug Bust': Berenguer is Gone, But Who Else?
The latest news at the EPO is that Luis Berenguer has been "disappeared"... (warning: epo.org URL; they can probably track links to unmask readers' source/destination, so we always add a cautionary note).
He has been replaced by Kris De Neef (new ad interim Principal Director Communications) and Roberta Romano-Götsch (new ad interim Spokesperson). So say readers of Techrights
Maybe by sheer coincidence, this happened only hours after we had begun contacting mainstream media journalists about this matter.
From the Web site this morning:
"No further information is available at this point in time," we're told. "The internal announcement issued by Campinos is completely silent about the reasons for the ad interim appointments."
"For the moment it's not clear whether Berenguer has been temporarily moved aside in order to be "rehabilitated" or whether he is gone for good."
He - and maybe his drugs habits - is closely connected to many other EPO politicians ("managers") and former EU (EUIPO) officials. This is a big deal. Berenguer's disappearance might only be the start of something, including political scrutiny from elected MEPs.
The EPO's Web site finally took down Berenguer's smug mug; he is now finished as far as the Web site is concerned, but many questions remain. Who's going to not only ask these questions but also receive substantive answers? Betokening or expressing existence of replacements is probably OK, but what were the reasons? What was the process? █
