A Lot of What's Left of the Online "Media" is Paid-for SPAM
Hours ago:
Days ago: "MIT Technology Review Insights" is the Selling of Ponzi Schemes for Sponsors (MIT Lacks Integrity)
This morning: The Register MS Has Just Taken Money to Promote Microsoft Windows Under the Guise of "HEY HI" (AI)
How much of online media can people still trust? Aside from slop (LLMs' output) and paid-for spamfarms there are articles that seem like legitimate information but are anything but.
The above example, which is new, piggybacks the reputation of MIT.
How about the following...
It is "probably paid spam," said a reader, as "Microsoft fears locally stored, open file formats".
It says "Sponsored DealPost" right there at the top of the page in this trashy site (once upon a time a good news site) of the Microsoft-sponsored IDG.
The IDG company is now owned by China and they use the former reputation of the real news site to promote SPAM. █
