Microsoft-Sponsored FSFE is Exploiting the Success of Jean-Baptiste Kempf to Market Itself and Its GAFAM-Funded Messaging (While Pretending to be "FSF" Europe)
The real FSF is trying to raise funds this month, but so does the so-called 'FSFE', a front group of Microsoft (US) and Google (US), pretending to be "Europe". The FSFE is rich because of the massive corporations it is fronting for. It's not grassroots.
Unicorn Media said that "VLC Projectβs Champion Honored with European SFS Award in Italy", noting that "VLCβs core developer and VideoLAN president, Jean-Baptiste Kempf, was awarded the European SFS Award this year at Italyβs premier free software conference."
Who ever heard of this "European SFS Award"?
Well, The Register MS has just published "VLC's keeper of the cone nets European free software gong", showing that - just to paraphrase an associate - the real FSF still has not gotten a lid on FSFE, an imposter group that exploits the FSF's name to mislead millions of people. "AFAIK VLC is a good project," he said. "Its fame is being exploited by FSFE".
The FSFE [sic] also exploits high-profile Free software migrations in Europe to MERELY PRETEND those had something - even if not ANYTHING AT ALL - to do with a Microsoft-funded FSFE [sic]. Daniel Pocock wrote about this before. Mr. Pocock was a senior person there (elected by members), so he is a former insider and now a whistleblower.
No doubt Jean-Baptiste Kempf accomplished a lot (not limited to VLC) in not so many years. He was born in 1983. To let the imposters exploit his name would be a disservice. β
