Your Computers Are Work and Entertainment Tools, Not a Fashion Statement
People use PCs to communicate and be informed, but to some folks the purpose of computers is social in a different kind of way. If you're into fashion, find another job or keep cruft out of the workplace.
There is nothing wrong with expressing oneself through garments, apparel, gait, and swagger. I'm definitely not against fashion.
But suppose you're in a workplace and you get given a task. They say, use the best tool for the job, right?
So why won't you?
See, some people are very conscious of how people might perceive them or "what people might think". Based on appearances, not any practical work.
To a lot of people who still buy Apple - a company with many issues by the way [1, 2, 3] - fashion comes before productivity. It's not about being practical, it's about appeasing expectations sold en masse through marketing campaigns.
In my experience, working with "Apple fans" is not pleasant; I had colleagues like these and they turned out to be the worst colleagues I ever had - smug, unproductive, even defrauding my colleagues and I to take the kids to Disneyland using money they stole from us. Because, you know, social climbers and their social anxieties. █
