"AI" is a Lie. It Always Was. What They Call "AI" Is Not.
Slop is not "AI". "Plagiarised information synthesis system" (PISS) is a more accurate description of what the mainstream media (MSM) keeps calling "AI".
Don't say "AI".
Unless it actually is AI. Don't be like Red Hat. Don't rebrand everything as "AI".
Stop and think. What is it that I'm actually reading or writing about?
Is there actual intelligence (t)here?
Sometimes the mainstream media (MSM) says "AI automation", which is just a dishonest name/label - a way of saying automation. You could also say AI GPUs, AI computers, AI servers, AI data centres etc. Then everything old is just "AI". Didn't we see this before with "cloud"? Or "smart"? Or "IoT"?
It's upsetting to see that a lot of MSM actively participates in this.
This kind of MSM has long deserved to die in a fire. It's complicit in propaganda. It builds a pyramid scheme. It'll hurt a lot of people. It's looking to profit from the harm it is causing.
This MSM does no favours to the economy, even if the lies and gaslighting may help lift share prices, temporarily. They say the higher you go the harder you fall. Saying let's send the stock sky-high based on lies is like saying "I hope this pyramid scheme will flourish for many years to come..."
One way to tackle this dangerous hype is to follow the example of RMS and refuse to say "AI" or answer questions about "AI" until the question is rephrased or clarify is shed on why this particular term is a misfit (depending on the context); or as Cory Doctorow put it 2 years ago: "Even as two major, terrifying wars rage around the world, every newspaper has an above-the-fold AI headline and half the stories on Google News as I write this are about AI. I’ve had to make rule for my events: The first person to mention AI owes everyone else a drink." █
