GNU/Linux Up to 5% in analytics.usa.gov, Apple and Microsoft Only Sell Fantasies
"The US government's web traffic" as presented by analytics.usa.gov suggests that Windows usage is down, Vista 11 usage collapsed this past month or so (down by about 10%), and GNU/Linux is up. Apple isn't doing too well either, so its CEO is going to be replaced soon. Apple's debt has skyrocketed and key products are a ‘Flop’, according to this recent article (published earlier this month):
As a reminder, Vision Pro couldn't even ship a million units, so rarely do we hear anything about the device or its operating system anymore. Our predictions about it were correct. It'll go the way of the dodo or the original "Surface" (Microsoft's "big-ass table").
As for Microsoft, it tries to rebrand Windows as "AI" something or "agentic" (AI) something because it's not selling well and Microsoft needs to engage in "creative" storytelling with shareholders. As somebody put it yesterday, regarding Microsoft's storytelling:
"All we need is more processing and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more memory and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more training data and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more time and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more accelerators and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more nodes and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more datacenters and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
"All we need is more power and I'm sure this statistical box will magically turn intelligent through some completely unknown mechanism."
The context being the GPU bubble. Quoting the original: "This could hasten the popping of the AI bubble, which some experts like Pat Gelsinger say is still several years away. But if and when that happens, we will be in for a shock as even non-tech companies would be hit by this collapse, exposing nearly $20 trillion in market cap."
No good will ever come out of a so-called 'industry' which relies so heavily on deliberately false marketing. █
