What Buzzwords or Catchphrases Come After "AI" and "Quantum"?
"...and [IBM CEO] Alvind continued the train wreck and the bare faced lies about AI and Quantum," wrote somebody a few hours ago in reply to claims that "Ginny [the previous CEO] completely wrecked the company..." (written 6 days ago by Anonymous)
The famous "Nobel" invented a way to blow up people and their homes (or other things). He felt a bit guilty about that, so there's this prize that's now used to legitimise Ponzi schemes and lies told by oligarchs.
But this article isn't about Mr. Nobel. To be fair, his work in chemistry wasn't meant to cause wars and deaths. It just sort of happened.
Catchphrases like AI and Quantum aren't the first of their kind. Most of our readers have lived through "IoT", "serverless" and all sorts of other nonsense. With some creativity, almost anything can be sold as "IoT" (it's just some thing connected to the Internet) and "serverless" does in fact rely on a server, so it is not serverless at all.
In the case of "AI", what they really mean is synthetic slop, not intelligence. In quantum physics, there's ample and maybe mature theory, but no truly viable products.
When "AI" ran out of steam (around 2020 or 2021) they started calling it "genAI", then "advanced AI", now they say "agentic" or "agents" or "superintelligence" and all sorts of other malarkey. It's meant to make old crap (recycled) seem novel and cutting-edge.
Right now it's not too clear what new lies CEOs can tell shareholders to shield themselves from criticism (calls for resignation, "Tim Apple" is next in the firing line), e.g. blaming mass layoffs and mounting debt on "transition to AI" or "investment in AI" (baloney and mindless hoarding).
Scientific-sounding lingo (or names, e.g. "Tesla") has its limits and without the mass media participating in the bubble, it'll be hard to inflate the "next bubble" or "pump-and-dump" ploy.
If you want to know what next bubble is being "pumped up", then pay attention to who gets the next "Nobel" award/s. █
