The News Became SPAM (More So Around Buy Nothing Day)
"Buy Nothing Day" (please don't) is almost upon us and in recent days many news sites burped out (or coughed up) nonsense like the above, marketing spam disguised as "articles", sometimes with clickbait like "LAST CHANCE!" or "CHEAPEST EVER!"
It's possible to skip and ignore most of that spam, but it still takes time and extra effort. That also relates to the previous article ("What Happened to the Media and the Press?") because publishers are now owned and run by salespeople, not journalists. That's why so many of them experiment with slop or become slopfarms with fake authors [1, 2].
Expect some more layoff news (like Apple and HP) to be dumped "out there" just before or during the holiday weekend in the US. We'll keep an eye, but that means we'll need to scroll past loads of spam (or SPAM, all caps). █
