At IBM, "Last Day" Can be Same as Layoffs ("RAs"), Might be Euphemism Advanced by PR/HR Under NDA-Tied Conditions
He has just said it like it is, stating it's a "last day" [1, 2] whilst also openly admitting this was layoffs (going "off script"?):
14 years ago, Dennis Ritchie, the co-inventor of UNIX, had his last day.
My best friend had his last day in 2023.
Decades before his death Steve Jobs had his last day at Apple.
Last day?
OK, factually that is true. But what's behind those two words?
At IBM, "last day" is almost like a dog whistle.
Those people want compensation/severance payment. They try to act all happy - almost cheerful (in public) - about becoming unemployed. Has retirement become another dog whistle?
For blind people or Gemini users, the comment from 4 hours ago said: "And more meetings to follow in 2026 as the layoff lists get done. Expect more failed US Executive and Management departures in April 2026 in the name of "retirements". Writing is on the wall for all of them, including Alvind. Jobs will be sent to India under the "Musical Chairs On The Sinking Titanic" game that only Indian crooks know how to play best." █
