XBox Console is Dead, "Microsoft is Rethinking What XBox is"
Hours ago: Xbox loses the console war to PlayStation and Switch | Xbox is losing the console race, so Microsoft is rethinking what Xbox is
2025 is not over yet, but more sites now say what we pointed out last month. "XBox" is basically over and the brand is just being reused or re-purposed to describe something it isn't (it wasn't).
As some context to all this:
- Microsoft brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to Amazon Fire TV with console-free play
- More Amazon Fire TV devices just became virtual Xbox consoles
- Some Amazon Fire Smart TVs Now Let You Play Xbox Games
- Xbox Cloud Gaming is Coming to the Latest Amazon Fire TV Smart TVs
So XBox is now "cloud". Should Microsoft merge that into "Cloud Division" and hail "Cloud Growth" in the next quarterly report (January)?
Call me crazy or old-fashioned, but I seem to recall "XBox" being an actual console; now that Microsoft is failing to sell the darn thing (even at a considerable loss!) it's all "sour grapes" from start to finish. Microsoft will pretend that it just doesn't want to sell consoles. █
