This is part 20 already, and it's the last day of this year. The EPO's 2026 might be the last year of António Campinos, who (if the EPO cared about lawfulness) like Benoît Battistelli needs to have his term expediently terminated.
Last month we said that Campinos was already planning to pursue a third term. Campinos is so arrogant he thinks he can run the Office with cokeheads for 15 years.
"It's also factual as you have described that Campinos is eyeing a third term," one insider told us. "Your coverage is putting all of this in jeopardy, and that's why they went for the sick leave solution [after the Berenguer drug bust]. For them the ideal outcome is: because of the sick leave, Campinos can get through this crisis without addressing the actual issue (as he is not allowed to talk about a medical condition) and test waters until things slowly get back to normal after Christmas break. Next year, whenever it seems safe to do so, he will try to reinstate Berenguer. Especially, if news of the cocaine abuse has not spread around staff and the AC."
Well, bad news for Campinos. EPO Cocainegate will be covered for months to come. █
