Free Software Foundation (FSF) Raised About 1.3 Million Dollars in the Past Couple of Months!
An hour ago the new year began in Boston, the birthplace of GNU.
Richard Stallman, a native of Manhattan (New York) who founded the FSF in 1985, will be giving a talk in an American college in three weeks' time. This will be his first since 2018 (8 years!) and hopefully the first of many this year.
The FSF has meanwhile nearly reached its monetary goal. If it extends the date by a bit, it'll probably get there, but that's not all that matters. Besides, it received an unexpected and anonymous gift said to be worth close to a million dollars. The FSF, unlike Wikipedia, actually needs this money. According to the IRS files, the FSF lost over a million dollars in the latest/last 2 years or over 2 million dollars in 5 years. Before the mob attack (on its founder) the FSF raised a lot of money or profited 1.7 million dollars in just two years (2018 and 2019):
The recent fund-raising by the FSF will help sort out "the books" and pay salaries. Earlier this week the FSF issued a statement and said it had added another new member to the Board. This means that the FSF's Board now has 10 people in it. Better than just 5 like it was a few years ago (due to vicious attacks on the FSF). █
