Ahead of Mass Layoffs Microsoft Tries to Rebrand or Redefine XBox (Because the XBox is Tentatively Dead)
Serving to affirm what we've repeatedly been saying for several months:
'Gaming' gets many mentions in relation to layoff rumours to be potentially materialised within 2 weeks (they can change the dates). 25,000 workers may be impacted, but Microsoft will never share the real figures (last year it gave a figure about half what it really was).
2026 will be the last year of XBox in all likelihood. They will try to keep the brand (not the console) alive. Remember "Store", "Origami", "Surface" and so on? Microsoft reuses brands to rewrite/blur the past (revisionism) and distort news coverage. █
