Difficult Times at IBM and Microsoft Ahead of Mass Layoffs (Probably Before This Month's Results Unless Postponed to 'Prove' Rumours 'Wrong')
Earlier this month: Of Course GNU/Linux Has Reached All-Time High in Africa in 2026
Today:
It is now reported, based on Microsoft LinkedIn, that "Phyllis Migwi has announced that she is stepping down from the role in February. This is since taking over the position in 2022 replacing Kendi Ntiwga."
To Microsoft, Kenya is a sweatshop. GNU/Linux is measured at 4% there this year and there were Microsoft closures in recent years.
What can Microsoft still do? It is losing its grip on Africans.
Meanwhile at IBM, the Microsoft tag-teaming faced some obstacles:
The "forever layoffs" at IBM (and Red Hat) [1, 2] concerns many people, as it does at Microsoft too. To quote Microsofters from half a day ago: "What you can control is how to get ready and be prepared should a layoff impact you. In your free time, updated your resume, you LI presence, start connecting w/ recruiters for jobs you might like to do next"
At IBM, people prepare for the push or the shove:
IBM is considered a toxic brand by many; even insiders admit the issues. Some hours ago someone asked about IBM layoffs: "What will be the demographics on this next one about to kick off?" Another asked: "dare we ask how many former managers (or they now individual contributors Git lib ) heading for PIPs, Layoffs or just the Exits ? Inquiring minds want to know."
IBM and Microsoft used to be tech giants. Nowadays they mostly pretend by pumping up their stock and buying back their own shares. █
