XBox's 'Major Nelson' Loses His Job Again, This Time in a Microsoft Mono Pusher
Proprietary software pushers generally serve the same agenda no matter whose company (or rota) they are on and who pays the salary. Sometimes, in the case of Mono pusher (Microsoft) Unity, some Red Hat executives can also become pushers of proprietary things [1, 2, 3].
There are many reports this week [1-3] about Unity layoffs and 'Major Nelson' seems to have jumped from one burning ship to another.
Microsoft hasn't much of a future in gaming. XBox's business is in rapid decline and people who push Mono to game developers are the same. █

Larry Hryb, better known by many as his gamertag, ‘Major Nelson’, has announced on social media that he has been struck by a wave of layoffs at Unity. In 2024, Unity laid off a whopping 25% of its employee base, a move that reportedly cost the company more than $200 million.
It was later reported that the firm’s CEO netted millions in bonuses mere months after the company let go of hundreds of employees.
