Checking in – January 2026
Another bit of a nothing month this time, so we'll make it a bit quick.
First, mass-wise I have now reached a new set point of about 66 kg or so. Often the problem is that I have gotten back to the point where I eat too much, usually at all-you-can-eat hot pots as they are fairly cheap and available all the time. It is especially appropriate for this kind of season where it is sometimes cold.
I have been diagnosed with gingivitis. Although I don't think my dentist put it together, (she blamed something on genetics) I think it has something to do with the immunosuppressants that I have been taking for my Crohn's. A cursory search in Google informed me that it's not an absolutely bonkers relationship where Crohn's and gingivitis are related, but it never got brought up. I've never really been good at keeping my teeth and I have never flossed ever, but that has changed now. I may think of doing a deep cleaning later during the year because of this.

FlatCube NES Port Finished
I have been hard at work this last week and a half on the NES port of FlatCube. For context of what FlatCube is, I wrote a post back in November mentioning I had created a game for the Playdate called FlatCube.

🖋️ Why I still write on the Small Web in 2026
Gemini is not where most people are. That's part of the point. I write here because nothing competes with the text. No layout decisions. No images asking for attention. Just words, in order.
[...]
I don't know who reads this. I don't need to. There are no metrics to check. I could implement something to track pageviews and so on, but, I don't want to. No reason to optimize. If someone finds a post, it's because they were looking.

Creality Promises a "Closed-Loop Filament Workflow" with the Shredder R1 and Filament Maker M1
Rapid manufacturing and prototyping firm Creality has announced two upcoming products aimed at reducing the environmental impact of fused filament fabrication: the Shredder R1 and Filament Maker M1, for recycling waste into new filament.
"Filament is no longer something you buy and throw away," the company promises of the impact of its upcoming devices. "It becomes something you control — on your desk. "Two machines. One closed-loop filament workflow. Built to sit beside your 3D printer. Leverage an integrated workflow to reclaim raw waste as precision pellets and extrude them into premium 3D printing filament."

vi things the Romans have done for us
A no-op substitute command can be used (perhaps in longer documents that have gone on for too long, as they are wont to do, especially when there is no editor involved. That's a human editor, those semi-mythical heroes who would cleanup the prose, ask for clarifications, keep the whole bloody thing from not going on for too long, do spelling and grammar corrections, etc. Obviously editors were first on the chopping block when pennies were pinched, and by the way American workers (those poor sods) recently took home the least amount of Capital since 1947, presumably because their shift keys were borked, or something. Doubtless we need Irving Finkel to, using one of his tablets, summon zombie Roosevelt who can head-lock and face-punch Jack Welch until the droll deed is done. Also I had some nice pu'er tea this morning) to find the last blank line.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
