Our Gemini Protocol Support Turns 5 Today
In late 2020 we spoke about Gemini Protocol, which had turned 1 only months earlier. At the time (November) we said: "Accountability or improved behaviour comes about when there's increased transparency."With Gopher, Gemini, BBS (over Telnet), (S)FTP and various other protocols (GNUnet insists it's still in alpha) there are many options at our disposal, but for the time being we use IPFS, which seems solid, stable, and widely used (approaching a million nodes worldwide)."
Back then IPFS was still hot (blockchain hype), not yet the go-to option of rogue actors and cybercriminals (running an IPFS node nowadays is badly stigmatised not just due to excessive energy and bandwidth exhaustion).
On February 8th 2021 (exactly half a decade ago) we finally announced adding Gemini Protocol support (we had mentioned it before but not in relation to ourselves) and a day later we published another video about it.
So today is a rare anniversary for us. The next one will be in 2031 (if Gemini Protocol is still kicking at that point). █
