New Project: Great Salt Lake Ecological Observatory
This is nothing particularly special from a technical perspective - it's a few dozen lines of Tcl and an Sqlite database to record data from USGS's API. It is, however, an issue near and dear to my heart.
I have no real expectation that this will be of much interest to anyone else - but it is of interest to me, and as a result, I expect it will get more features (mainly data about inflow) over time. Headlines are manually selected from articles I find interesting; statistics are automated.

The future of the DOE Site
An enormous project to restart uranium enrichment in Paducah, Kentucky on a Department of Energy site is working its way through approvals and public comments. If built, one of the enrichment facilities will be owned by Peter Thiel's General Matter. Officials plan to announce an expedited secure AI data center associated with the federal government sharing the high-security site. If built, it will be America's only uranium enrichment site and Kentucky's second hyperscale data center.
The US buys nuclear fuel from Russia for power plants and submarines. There's a single uranium mine in the US, on the edge of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, closed during Biden's administration due to a dispute with the Navajo nation but reopened by Trump's Secretary of the Interior. There's one firm, a small family company from Utah, transporting uranium ore in trucks on fixed routes at fixed times to northern Illinois. Ore is milled by the Honeywell Uranium Hexafluoride Processing Facility. The plan is to ship milled uranium hexafluoride by train to Paducah for enrichment.

Some changes to the "burrow" tool
The number of dashes in the header can now be configured and defaults to 67 chars. I also added an author line (optional), made the date format configurable and added some links back to the phlog index and the root page of the gopher hole (optional).

Art: My watercolor analog-digital workflow
I took the time to scan and post a few more of my 4" watercolor image to the 'art' section of the gopher hole, under 'book 3' -- a book upon whose cover I painted "Art (maybe)." There are exactly two paintings I actually like in this collection (so far), but I wanted to take this opportunity to document (brag about) the complicated process for scanning my watercolor sketches. I'm proud that I'm able to employ many different retro hardware and software components in this process.

Offpunk 3.0 "A Community is Born" Release
For the last four years, I’ve been developing Offpunk, a command-line Web, Gemini, and Gopher browser that allows you to work offline. And I’ve just released version 3.0. It is probably not for everyone, but I use it every single day. I like it, and it seems I’m not alone!

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
