Valnet's Good Legacy of GNU/Linux Advocacy in Journalism Form
A few years ago I publicly condemned a Valnet site for essentially shutting down - or scuttling - a site's section where several authors promoted GNU/Linux every day. I also contacted the management to politely inquire about what had happened. A decision was made by someone. That was very clear.
About a year later Valnet, which has now got a whole bunch of sites (even for topics like games), suddenly started to publish lots of pro-GNU/Linux articles. It was a real surge and nowadays - across domains [1, 2, 3] - they publish about 5 stories per day (on average) advocating GNU/Linux but sometimes politely criticising something (they can say it's "tough love"; nobody is perfect and nothing can be impeccable).
In hindsight, I'd like to think that the feedback sent Valnet's way triggered some decisions, which nowadays result in many GNU/Linux users having casual writing gigs/jobs. As a result, we're all better off.
Let's hope they carry on like this. █
