Giving to the Community Versus Taking From the Community (or Worse, Attacking the Community)
Like in every truly community-run site, Techrights does not accept sponsorships and never accepted any sponsorships. We are not sponsored by anybody and were never sponsored by anyone (except maybe those who contributed towards hosting bills or did the hosting on a pro bono basis). Yesterday I installed some SSL certificate for a friend and relative; it's not a business, it's a favour, and there is sometimes reciprocity.
A lot in the Free software community is based on perceived or expected reciprocity. You do X, I do Y, some other people will do Z. Together, instead of bartering with currencies, we help one another and mentally measure the contribution of peers on a relative basis.
Speaking of reciprocity, some people bring no contributions, only harm, e.g. Microsoft TPMs. We can expect Microsoft Amutable to do lots of harm, just like Microsoft Xamarin before it. █
