IBM Layoffs by Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and More Evidence of Layoffs at HashiCorp After IBM Took Over

There is some discussion in recent hours about PIPs at IBM. There are reasons to suspect IBM gets rid of more people via PIPs then via direct RAs:

PIPs are a 'hack'. IBM gets to hide layoffs while lessening severance payments (if any).
And meanwhile in IBM forums devoted to layoffs people still talk about expected layoffs this month.

5 hours ago someone added: "I wouldn't trust [IBM CEO] Alvind to sit the right way on a toilet seat, let alone believe any statement from him that there will be no layoffs at IBM during 2026. Where there's a will, there's a way to layoff employees and put them on PIPs etc. IBM is no longer a company run by ethical management. And it starts at the top ....with Alvind."
Notice how the media does not cover IBM layoffs. Last month there were mass layoffs (almost 1,000 impacted at Confluent) and not a single publisher mentioned it. █
