Tens of Thousands of Days of Strike at Europe's Second-Largest Institution, Nobody in the Media Has Mentioned It
Since the "extraordinary general meeting"

In January until February about 5,000 workers were on strike if one goes by the cumulative sum (e.g. 1,600 people on strike, then 1,500, then 1,900). In March the strikes intensified further, so one can imagine a cumulative sum of about 10,000. Since then there have been so many days of strikes that it's very obvious we're talking about tens of thousands of days of strikes' worth.
If some organisation with 10,000 workers had several days of general strike and not a single worker showed up for work (for several days), one might expect press coverage, right?
Well, not in Europe's second-largest institution.
Orban's standards for media (after 16 years in Hungary's leadership) seem to have spread to Bavaria, which the EPO is based in, and even further to the EU and Europe (EPO member states include Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and so on).
How did we get to this sordid state of affairs?
"On Thursday, March 26 at 11.00 hrs," the leaders of staff said, "SUEPO The Hague held an extraordinary general meeting. An update on the situation with the administration and delegates was given in the slides, see here. Two votes were then held: one on the decision to continue the industrial actions and one to determine the preferred action plan of the members present."
They decided to go on strike any day, potentially until 2027. Why did the media not mention this?
And 23 days of strike are apparently also not newsworthy?
As SUEPO put it some days ago:
The Action Plan (strikes any day of the week) was adopted during the EGM of 26th March. Please find more guidance in this paper, which includes a call to all staff to:- Strike for at least 23 days in the period of 30 March until end of June;
- Strike on “anchor days” Monday 20 April, Friday 1 May and Monday 18 May, and
- Work-to-Rule.
