My Parents Living Room
I'm home alone. It happens somewhat frequently, a whole house to myself. Yet here I am, in my room, with my things and my thoughts. I could be downstairs with the big tv and a movie or some other activity, but instead I sit in my room at my desk.
Living with my parents has it's benefits sure, the rent they make me pay is small, they often cook me meals, I don't have to do all the chores. There is, however, a few downsides of course. They don't entirely vibe with my politics or my gender, they aren't always the nicest to me, and my opinion doesn't matter.

Folding Kayaks - Free Market Wins
In an earlier post, I showed much enthusiasm for the origami-folded kayaks, made from a single sheet of coroplast. I complained that the only company selling them was charging $1000-$2000 for a $40 sheet of coroplast with a few folds and straps.

Academic Writing
I started my job prior to finishing my PhD and have still been working to publish (possibly) some of the last work I did in that program. Due to the full time job, all of that writing and revising has been pushed to evenings and weekends. When this started, I was concerned that I would be too exhausted or time-constrained to write well enough to accomplish anything. However, after a successfully revised PhD, an article, and hopefully more on the way, I think the opposite may be true.
With so little continuous time to dedicate to writing, I find myself gravitating towards two good habits I sorely missed while I was a full-time student.

Developing a Strange Psychosis
For a while I've been playing a visualization game "Rotate a Cow". Basically you picture a cow and spin it around as if it was on a CAD screen.
Over the last year I've been trying a different experiment, and it is backfiring. In this one you place yourself into another person's head, and look at the world from their perspective.
It is purely visual -- you are just trying to see what they would see. You can focus on a passerby in the street and "invade" their eyeballs -- and often see yourself as they walk by.

What's Amazing about TUIs
The Text User Interface certainly has fallen by the wayside in the last 30 years. Everything looks so nice with your sharp pixel graphics, after all.

More lessons learned in gaming
I was looking at an old blog post of mine: 2021-04-05 The things I learned. There, I listed all the campaigns I played and tried to find a sentence each for what worked, what didn't work and what I had learned. It's a strange format.

copy fail e qualche pensiero sullo ghostty
With the announcement of the copy fail exploit, CVE-2026-31431, which allows anyone with shell access (remote/terminal), to easily gain a root shell; we know, we tested on several Rocky systems. Luckily, the older systems (EL 7.x based) weren't affected. Mitigation was to patch the kernel, or blacklist up to three kernel modules at boot. When you manage a specialized cluster, patching a kernel isn't just an update; our cluster utilizes Mellanox/NVIDIA libraries that are tied to the kernel version, and other unrelated software such as parallel file system access, are also tied to the kernel version. This basically means that if we update a kernel, we have to rebuild several other pieces of software for compatibility. The cluster I primarily manage is mixed architecture as well: x86 and aarch64. There is also a mixture of standard 4k & 64k kernel sizes..

Insanity or Creating a Gemini How-to with 5353 Files
Granted, a lot of them are generated. But the scripts took time as well. Anyway, I just wanted to create an Everything Gemini How-to, with which I could play a little in different clients, GUI and TUI.

i forgot what i was going to write about but here's a list of things
hello i'm on gemini again (though i doubt any of you will remember me, never really did much here to begin with). i had this feeling i wanted to write a post and submit it to antenna but i forgot what exactly (so i've just listed a bunch of topics that were on my mind lol) and also i'm a little concerned my lazy writing style and informalness isn't compatible with the usual audience of antenna but whatever
