The Real News is Botnets (e.g. Windows With Back Doors), Not Iran
Microsoft's aim is the opposite of security [1, 2]. Microsoft prevents computer users from controlling their own computers. It has been known for quite some time.
Yesterday in IRC someone said https://ubuntu.com/ was completely unreachable (failing at a rather fundamental level, not merely timing out). Someone else said that Microsoft Windows zombies (botnets) were to blame, as they were leveraged in bulk to overwhelm the infrastructure (Canonical outsources a lot). The media tends not to mention the cause of the botnets, only who leverages these or allegedly exploits them.
Let's focus on the botnets. That's apolitical; this is what Microsoft and the NSA strive for. █
