    The salt is important (beware the blinkered binary) as locating a language that nobody uses and that nobody complains about should be fairly easy: humans like to complain, and "nobody" usually means "almost nobody" just as "everyone" often instead is "almost everyone".

  • Shoes broke

    I don’t know what happened but my shoes broke today, some how one of the pads got disconnected, my family tried to glue them together, but no luck. So im currently walking around shoeless.

  • i guess i'm a gundam fan now

    A friend recently convinced me to check out the Mobile Suit Gundam series, and it seems to be a great time to do so as there is a highly anticipated movie coming out soon, the second in a trilogy. We got to go see the first movie at a re-showing in a major cinema here, and I had an awesome time. I was concerned that it would be quite childish or heavy on the anime tropes (I really cannot stand most anime TV shows, even if the story is great it often comes with a buttload of cringe), but it ended up being way more compelling than I thought.

    The movie had some great personal drama, a super interesting world, and felt really grounded for a sci-fi franchise about robots with laser swords. Our protagonist being a leader of a guerrilla faction performing acts of terror against a bureaucratic state was not at all what I expected, nor did I expect to see him facing the consequences of his actions in very direct and visceral ways.

  • Older Can Be Faster

    A few weeks ago, while helping to clean my parents' house, I found my dad's iPhone 3GS. Everyone in the family owned a refurbished 3GS from early 2011 to late 2012, but I've long since recycled mine, so coming across his brought back some long-forgotten memories. I brought it back to my house to play with it.

    One thing stood out to me almost immediately. The smartphone runs iOS 5.0, which released almost fifteen years ago in October 2011. However, the Maps app still loads current data from Google Maps--and the tiles load faster than they do on my wife's iPhone 16.

    Yesterday between 21:56 and 22:03 EET, I managed to hear SSTV tones from the International Space Station using only a Baofeng UV-5RM from my balcony.
