When President Campinos brought back his cocaine-using "brother-in-law" to the EPO his faithful 'yes men' (and Romano-Götsch, a rare woman) failed to grasp how much of a scandal this would become. It is additional "adrenaline" for the many EPO workers who were on strike today (Friday) and it will add "fuel" to the dumpster fire of Campinos. National delegates already ask Campinos some very difficult questions. We are told that "the fact that Luis was caught with cocaine causes laughter. The use of cocaine in itself is not the real shocking bit."

We've long heard the same about Campinos and we still hear it. His girlfriend is the sister of Luis Berenguer Giménez, the cocaine user. There's no way to sugarcoat it and cocaine is no sugar, either.

"Cocaine consumption is much easier," we got told, "much more discreet, with more quick acting effects than alcohol consumption. It has also become much more common."

At the EPO anyway. Why do national delegations tolerate cocaine in Europe's second-largest organisation and what does this tell us about NPOs (national patent offices) across the continent? █
