There is this extremely false notion - prevalent in the world's autocracies - that hurt feelings make one eligible to compensation. For example, dictators who have long crushed and sometimes killed people believe that the real issue is their critics. If they lose a night's sleep over some reporting, they'll try to hold the reporter/s liable.
In a world that values freedom - including free press and free speech - hurt feelings are part of an everyday reality. People with a thin skin - including hypocrites who fail to acknowledge the harm they themselves cause to others - don't belong in democratic societies (especially not in control of such societies). █
