Faking Demand for Slop: Google's Search Prompt Becomes Slop Prompt (Bait, Switch, Fake Usage)
Earlier this year: In Case You've Missed It (ICYMI), Google's Debt More Than Doubled in a Year

Google is now waving its slop in everyone's faces, whether they want it or not
Google replacing search results with plagiarism isn't a new thing; it used to be known as various things like Google Answers well before the LLM frenzy and Google basically extracted text from pages instead of linking to them or directing people to visit them. It is not a new thing. But it was always ethically dubious.
The slop industry, as in slop-pushing companies, relies on faking "growth" or manufacturing "phony" demand, basically preaching to people what they want or need; failing that, the people get tricked into using what they don't want or this stuff they don't want gets passively invoked. But if they don't want that in the first place, some proportion of them will get angry enough to leave, cancel etc.
Years ago I kept saying that I never used LLMs, but nowadays it seems like merely using Google Search (even just once) means people like myself use things they don't want. In that regard, GAFAM can now claim that almost 100% of people use LLM. They didn't choose to; it's not something they asked for, it's just something they don't want.
Looking back at history, when people are forced to do stuff they don't want they will inevitably rebel. If there is no consent, then it's unsustainable. █
