Heap of Trash Online, Not Just the Fault of LLM Slop But Enabled by Slop
Nobody wants to read slop; in turn, inevitably and in due course, people and companies also stop linking to slop
First, the good news...
Since the bunch of us (combined) follow about 2,000 RSS feeds we can get a general sense of how widespread slop has become. This past month it seems to have slowed down. Slopfarms with "linux" in their domain name, for example, became dormant or barely active. Put another way, their LLM 'experiments' are failing. Some throw in the towel. Some lose motivation.
LinuxSecurity, for instance, appears to have become inactive (at last).
The Serial Slopper is barely aiming his slop at "Linux" anymore, except:
Google News seems to have improved a lot (many slopfarms removed from the index, maybe also delisted from Google Search).
Moments ago we saw an indicator of the general "rot"; need we even comment on this thing Google News has just deemed "news"?

To be fair to Google News, those sorts of sites have been rare lately (we see them maybe once or twice a week); there has certainly been a noticeable improvement this year. Last year we could still make whole galleries of slop examples - to the point of devoting a whole - and sometimes very long - daily series to talk about it.
When the bubble pops the upstream suppliers of slop (images and text) will become unavailable. █
