Andy (Cyber Show) on His Teacher Who "Squeezed Every Last Drop Out of Life, With Gratitude, Humility, Generosity and Mettle"
Over at the Cyber Show there's this article about how to make the most of one's life. It is in Geminispace as well (nothing lost except an image of Yoda). In Andy's words:
He was no "transhumanist" displacing his faith into future technology and dreaming of being what he was not. He did not "embrace" technology but lived in grace and acceptance with it. He had a good measure of his days. Like other people with huge life-challenges I know, Wilco was an "ultra-humanist", a humaximiser who squeezed every last drop out of life, with gratitude, humility, generosity and mettle. Some might say a David Goggins. But to look at, he would be first in line if the likes of Elon Musk had their way. Inefficient! Not economically viable! With the help of our NHS in its glory days when all citizens got the best medicine of the time to make the best of each life, Wilco was not a "disabled" person but an enabled person.
As humanity seems poised on a point of disgust with itself, with the potential to simply shrug and hand over the farm to mechanical overlords, Wilco reminds me of what it is to be fully human, even without the blessing of a full human lifespan. To me he was a real life Yoda, even though he made it to about 30 instead of 500. He is forever fixed in my mind along with a dead programming language, fancy finger-work on a brand new Fender, unique, brilliant, here for a day and gone in a flash.
Many of us have known or met people like these. Some call them "eccentric" and are dismissive about what they have to offer. Such are today's sociopathic "tech bros".
My 'teacher' thankfully made it well into his 90s. He passed away just over a year after lawfare against me had begun. █
