State of the GNU/Linux Desktop (and Laptop)

Laptops are abundant here, but we use very old ones (10+ years). They're good enough for GNU/Linux and they hardly cost anything; they were purchased well before the prices of storage went insane.
Laptop users are getting fed up with Windows and given the prices of new computers we don't imagine many will "buy" (license) Windows by means of purchasing hardware.
Based on statistics like these, the "market share" of 'proper' (not ChromeOS) GNU/Linux is somewhere around 5% or higher. The boost for GNU/Linux will likely become more pronounced after next month's mass layoffs at Microsoft.
The time to advocate GNU/Linux is now (or anytime), with sites like End of 10 being a handy URL to give people looking to escape malware-as-an-OS. █
