Do Not Outsource (the Seductive Mirage)
Abandoning so-called 'conventional wisdom'

We do not use a CDN, so delivering pages to Japan can take over a second, but at least we keep our true independence - to the extent feasible - from third parties (we've noticed that FOSS Force's "independence drive" now outsources to Linux Foundation, which is the opposite of independence).
There is an insightful new post from Seth Godin, cautioning not even to outsource to social control media, stating: "We don’t have to work for free for a media network that pretends it will reward us with reliable traffic. Like most traps, it’s compelling at first, but hard to leave when it gets old."
Godin mostly focuses - and correctly points out - that GAFAM worked to kill RSS. It wanted to control what people see and do not see; RSS feeds went against that.
In 2026 we continue to rely on RSS feeds both for curation (to find news) and to keep regular readers informed of new articles. At no point did we outsource our feeds to third parties (all those who did so came to regret it sooner or later because virtually all the third parties perished over the decades). █
