IBM PIP Stories Told in Public, Fake IBM News (Fabricated Claims) Drown Media Sites

Any performance improvement plan (PIP) in today's IBM can be presumed a layoff (RA), as IBM misuses if for silent layoffs. 3 hours ago somebody wrote in the open:

The announcement has been long due but I had been waiting for formal separation notice from IBM.

I will take a moment to reflect on the journey - The job came into life when Renee Veltri contacted me for a very exciting position at Octo Consulting. Mark Wells interviewed me and shared his vision to lead the effort to build a DevSecOps platform. A warm welcome to the Octo Family from Kim Nguyen came along with the offer letter.

I thrived in this role as we scaled the team and other talented engineers joined us in the effort.

Octo got acquired by IBM and somewhere along the way expectations changed . The senior leadership at IBM wanted me to manage a portfolio of $12.5 million dollars. Even though I have significant commits and merge requests to the code repositories, my contribution towards chargeable utilization was zero as I had been busy full time leading the team to build the DevSecOps platform.

I was put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) for a month to meet expectations for business growth opportunities. I challenged the PIP as there was a significant gap between the expectations and experience.

I sent an email on the morning of Jun 12 informing my manager that I will take the day off as I was not feeling well as per the IBM policy of requesting sick leave. It was a Friday, so I also filled in the timesheet using the appropriate code for sick leave, signed it and submitted it.

The following Monday on Jun 15, as I got on to my home office desk to start my work day, I could not access IBM systems. That is how I came to know that my job at IBM has ended.

This has left me wondering whether the PIP is a means to an end or an end in itself where the end is already known before the beginning. If the PIP was really meant for performance improvement, there would have been a discussion on how I have not been able to meet the expectations face to face between IBM management and myself during a formal separation meeting. Additionally, I would have been given information by HR on what to expect in terms of health benefits, 401K, retirement plan and eligibility for unemployment benefits. No such conversation happened.

A letter from IBM benefits center managed by Fidelity arrived today as employers are legally required to send this notice. The notice mentions the termination earlier this month as a qualifying event for IBM health coverage to end. In lieu of formal separation paperwork that I did not receive, I accept this notice as an official announcement from IBM that my employment has formally ended.

I take this opportunity to thank all my former coworkers at Octo Consulting and IBM for the support given to me during all these years. I am privileged to have worked with Mark Wells as he is undoubtedly one of the best leaders, supportive, transparent and upfront in his communication . Even if IBM as an employer did not care about my aspirations, Mark Wells did.

"It is misuse of leadership position to end someone's job or position @any level Or it is immaturity," the sole comment there said and it has been noted in thelayoff.com as well:

Another ibm layoff story - sound familiar ?

This refers to rage-baiting time-wasting spam like this.

Usually people just follow the NDA and do not specify what really happened.

Folks are meanwhile discussing a new promotional puff piece from a site that does sponsored narratives for companies like Microsoft [1, 2]. There are reactions to this nonsense:

Wow! This is like the third or fourth huge story IBM in less then a month! Winning! But does anyone else get a fishy vibe. Seems too compact. Why are we going all hifi in like two weeks time frame?

Seems like attempts to vex with fake news. The core issue here is corruption of the media. It prints utter lies to help sell vapourware.

Even our national broadcaster has just participated in this. IBM is seeding fake news to help justify the bailout.

There are PIP stories every day, but they don't typically say it is a PIP. In recent hours we see:

After close to 3 years, today is my last day at IBM.

Time for a new chapter. Yesterday was my last day at IBM. After 25 years it’s time to look for a new challenge outside of Big Blue

I've just had my last day at IBM and, after nearly 40 years, also my last day of full time working.

It is like this all day long.
