Techrights Community as Litigants in Person (LIPs)
I am not a lawyer (IANAL), but I speak to many lawyers, who are both helpful and generous (yes, some do exist!). In the old days I spoke a lot to Groklaw's PJ. She was a paralegal (had long worked as one) who was always nice to me. She taught me a lot.
It's difficult to write about technology without understanding the boundaries of law. And laws do vary across countries. There's no "universal law" and laws do change over time. They ought to. Society changes. Expectations evolve.
I do not typically write about active cases, nor can I illuminate the pertinent proceedings of hearings. But I can now say that today at 2PM (i.e. two hours ago) there was a hearing at the High Court. It finished an hour ago and the tentative determination is that I will have until September to revise my DCC, which I intend to follow up with a TPI. I am also pursuing an SFC application, which I made and paid for last year. Cases whose filers cannot afford ought not proceed; I explained the grounds for this application in full (last summer).
I am fluent in patent issues (though less articulate in exact laws associated with them, I am more on the "technical side"), but over time I learn more and more about media law in the UK, out of need, not necessarily out of genuine desire.
Techrights is organising its 20-year anniversary, having recently celebrated 18 years of our IRC community.
Together we are strong; and with strong political support we are even stronger. If our mayor is confirmed as Prime Minister, it'll give us a giant edge.
Techrights is a community site, but I am the more recognisable public face, sometimes the spokesperson for actual victims, so I take much of the heat and ensure we can carry on exposing corruption and abuses against women. Unwittingly and due to circumstances we're had to step in to protect women abused by monstrous men who lack empathy. This will never end. We do not compromise on those sorts of things. Women literally died to earn equality, both in the households and in their professional careers. █
