The European Patent Office's (EPO) Crisis Week Ends Today, the Rest of the Year Will be EPO Staff on Strike

Annus Horribilis for Campinos

Having just published Part 26 of the ongoing series, with plans of publishing Part 27 and Part 28 some time soon, let's take stock of what goes on at the European Patent Office (EPO), which days ago had a quarterly meeting of the European Patent Organisation (another EPO). The outcome of the two-day meeting won't change the fact that EPO staff is on strike for the whole year, as envisioned back in March, and might carry on striking in 2027 as well.

The staff wants the media to pay attention, but the media is intentionally not covering this (journalists who phoned me about it told me they were afraid of SLAPPs!). Over a decades ago when I met some journalists in person they told me their bosses reprimanded them for mentioning - yes, merely mentioning - the EPO's SLAPPs against me! This is not OK.

The media is very much complicit in what's happening. This week we spent a lot of time trying to mitigate or bring under control (acceptable level) DDoS attacks against this site. We won't share technical details (that would help the attackers), but we are 100% sure those are attacks and we have evidence.

The EPO crisis is now connected to the media crisis in Europe. Had the media given a damn and tried to inform the general public, the current regime would barely survive a week.
