Extremism in the Free Software World is Mostly a Myth

Today it is 7/7 (seven-seven), which means something here in the UK. Tolerating extremism, as history shows, leads to really bad outcomes. Everyone will suffer, even those stigmatised (by racial association with extremists).

The extremism in Free software does not come from Free-as-freedom sticklers but from companies they object to. Examples of extremism include actual crimes, even if they're corporate crimes. We've spent decades covering those.

There is a tendency to assume that extremism as a term applies only to poor people; when a so-called trillionaire does Nazi salutes it is not "extremism", it is just "funny" or "trolling". And they carry on plundering as if it never happened...

People need to take a strong stance against extremism in all its forms, even the corporate form that manifests or breeds corruption. Only the firm belief that justice applies to all will produce a just society. █
