There are common tidbits or sayings along the lines of, you can infer who is a good (or bad) person based on who loves (or hates) that person. It's not a difficult concept to grasp. Bad people abhor people who criticise them, they detest criticism in general, and they despise Web sites that accurately describe their behaviour, in turn interfering with that behaviour (e.g. money laundering, chauvinism, sacrilege).
In medieval times people were literally burned for criticising those in power, or even for forecasting bad (but true) things. "Witches" and "oracles" could only be rewarded by serving rulers and/or monarchs, or only as long as they "played ball".
In November 2006 we called for a boycott of Novell and correctly predicted that its patent deal with Microsoft would turn out to be a disaster. 4 years later Novell was no more!
Now, with IBM, we see similar things again. Some Red Hat insiders become sources to us. Others attack us viciously, both online and offline. They seem to believe that if somehow they can trick a state into imprisoning my wife, then whatever we predicted would not happen. The EPO's management attempted to do the same thing 11 years ago and it didn't work. Instead we became a regular feature in Private Eye and we are told that "almost everyone at the EPO" (nearly 7,000 staff) reads us. EPO insiders want and really need to know what their employer is up to.
Working against us (instead of with us) has historically been a bad strategy, as Ron Hovsepian (first IBM, then Novell, then unemployed) would know. █
