Nichirei and Asahi Beer Need to Take Cyberattacks as Hint of Opportunity to Move to Free Software

"Major Japanese chilled and frozen food supplier Nichirei suffered a cyberattack," a reader and contributor has told us. "Most Japanese know Nichirei as a brand which produces food items available at supermarkets. Recently they learned that Nichirei also supplies fast-food chains including KFC. KFC says that some menu items may become unavailable or worse, stores may have to temporarily close."
"Not long ago Asahi Beer fell victim to an attack, affecting shipments of beer and soft beverages." They needed to go back to pen and paper - something one cannot quite oppose.
"Significant service outages caused by security lapses may be why GNU/Linux adoption is rising in Japan," we got told. "Offices are told to ditch older Windows versions for which support is no longer available. But new hardware is expensive now and the most recent Windows version has undesirable features. This may be why GNU/Linux desktops are increasing." █
