Hardware Has Gotten a Lot Worse, Not Just Far More Expensive
More than 6 years ago, shortly after COVID-19 had broken out, Rianne purchased a preowned Lenovo laptop, which has since then survived without issues: hard drive perfectly OK, screen OK, battery line still not bad, speakers and sockets are all fine. The sole issue is one bad key ("." or full stop; key remapping works around this nuisance, no new keyboard necessary). That laptop was made about a decade ago, as was mine. That wasn't the "golden era" of hardware reliability - far from it! However, it feels like many things have gone downhill since then, including for home appliances, based on what a repairs professional told me this summer or this past spring. So prices go up fast, whereas the quality does not. People can rightly enjoy this new JWZ rant:
