EPO Cocainegate and Current EPO/EU Series to Carry on for Months to Come
António Campinos digs his own grave while lobbying our politicians in secret and under false pretences. He also shields cocaine addicts whose family he romances with.
Another week has begun - the last week of July. The rain has gone away again (in Manchester at least; rain rain, don't go away, come back another day) and many friends/colleagues went on holiday, which means many places of business/commerce hibernate (e.g. no concerts here for another 3 weeks). This gives us more time to organise, regroup, improve things, prepare new series, test new versions of our software (debugging takes some), and perform longstanding maintenance chores.
2 days ago we showed some gory details of corruption in the EU. There's a lot more coming in that series, at least seven more parts. This carries us well into August, maybe even September. Later that month the asleep-at-the-wheel 'overseers' can introduce more candidates for EPO leadership by advertising an opening for the role of President (in 2028). Whether they do so or not is up to them; if they don't, then they dig their own graves and further tarnish the reputation of "Europe's Second-Largest Institution," not just "Europe's Largest Institution" (EU) - the one that is connected to Campinos through EUIPO, UPC, and various other invisible strings. Later in that same month it'll also be exactly 12 months since the "brother-in-law" of Campinos was arrested for cocaine (Campinos tried to hide this, then he hid his "brother-in-law" inside the EPO so that he keeps getting paid).
To be clear, I as an individual am fervently pro-EU, some of my teammates here in Techrights are also pro-EU, and as far as I'm aware none of us opposes the EU. Having said that, we don't believe in hiding problems. So if something bad happens inside the EU's governance, we must report it and speak about it critically.
One teammate has encouraged me (the "public face" of the site) to also add a sentence or a paragraph "in the abstract" about why, in principle (without excessive details), it is important to not hide problems.
As we've witnessed repeatedly and quite a lot in the Free software communities, secrecy by NDAs and threats (blackmail) breeds speculation, distrust, and inability to verify. The vacuum leaves room for toxic elements and evil tongues to make stuff up, e.g. saying that the EU is a "nazi project" or something along those lines. We need to demand better transparency, hence accountability, in the EU and in Europe in general.
"In case we haven't already mentioned it," EPO insiders recently pointed out to us, "it may be worth pointing out that the UK's membership of the European Patent Organisation hasn't been impacted by Brexit. In other words, EPO affairs are directly relevant to the UK."
So this isn't just about the EU, it's a lot bigger than that.
